Odd Fashion at New Zealand Fashion Week

I know that fashion week is for the wild, the eccentric, and sometimes the just plain odd.

But isn’t this too much?

This model wears an all-black ensemble as she struts her stuff on the catwalk at New Zealand Fashion Week.

Her black knee-high lace-up boots are complemented by a hooded jacket and a umm … a ski mask?

What statement is this outfit making? Where could you wear it?

To a bank robbery? In a sandstorm?

Oh well … maybe I just don’t get it.

In case you were wondering, this outfit is from the Jaeha Winter 08 collection.

Ignoring the ski mask, I think I really like the boots. I would have loved to have seen them with a black or grey tunic dress and bright colored tights.

One of my favorite looks for fall is brights accessories with blacks and greys. Many women aren’t comfortable wearing a fuschia or orange dress, but would like to add a little color to their wardrobe.

By wearing bright tights, shoes, jewelry and headbands, you can get a little wild without it being “too much.”

Celebrity style: Bold, glamorous sunglasses

Sunglasses are more than just protection for your eyes - they’re also a fashion accessory. This season if you are looking to pick up a new pair of sunglasses, make them bold, glamorous and beautiful.

Choose an old school frame like the original Ray-Ban Wayfarers, but update the look in a new color like red. Everyone in Hollywood is wearing them, including the Olsen Twins, Kirsten Dunst, Fergie, Kiera Knightly, Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie, Ashley Simpson and Lindsay Lohan (pictured here). Red is a great color to wear year-round.

You can get Wayfarers at Sunglass Hut locations across the country for $139.

Another great option is the Jackie-O inspired look - big round, resort-style glasses. These type of glasses just scream style and confidence. They are fun, trendy and also functional - covering your not-so beautiful eyes after one too many late nights. You can choose from a variety of different types of frames from basic black to pretty jewel tones. One great choice in sunglasses this season is white. The stark contrast of white frames looks fabulous with darker fall and winter fashions.

If you aren’t sure about the big, bold trend, you don’t have to break the bank to try it out.

Skinny Jeans for the Not-So-Skinny

Luckily for most of us, the skinny on skinny jeans is that you don’t actually have to be skinny. Indeed, the operative word in this style refers to the cut of the pant, and not the wearer: they are long and narrow, hence, skinny. Continue Reading Skinny Jeans for the Not-So-Skinny »

Britney Spears Gets New Hair

Britney Spears left the B2V Hair Salon in Beverly Hills on Tuesday with fabulous new hair extensions. We have seen Brit with horrible looking hair in the past, so maybe she’s on the road to recovering her celebrity style.

Of course, she hasn’t pulled it all together quite yet. Her bra strap is falling down and her face doesn’t quite look it’s best. But really, let’s not nitpick. Her printed halter dress is very cute and her sunglasses look fab. And I love big white handbags - perfect for summertime.

Wouldn’t it be classic if Britney actually got her act together and starting looking and acting normal again? But really, what fun would that be?

Britney been so entertaining (yet sad) to watch over the last few years. She is going to be filming a video for a “virtual appearance” on the upcoming Madonna tour. So that’s why she’s trying to get her hair into tiptop shape. Good luck, Britney!

Bangladesh : 4th Bridal Festival

Dhaka Sheraton Hotel hosted the 4th Bridal Festival & Jewelry Exhibition of 2007. The event was organized by monthly fashion and lifestyle magazine Mirror. Besides, over 60 businessmen participated in this show.

The expo highlighted bridal clothing and accessories like jewelry, shoes, makeup kits and other related articles.

The Managing Director of the Mirror stated that it had been organizing the event for the past three years and that the festival essentially gave visitors an insight to marriage ideas.

For instance, the conventional colors associated with bridal wear were red and maroon but lately, the trend has undergone a sea of change. People today, do not mind experimenting with white, purple, golden and other colors to get that exceptionally unique bridal look.

The festival closed on November 29 with a grand fashion show at China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center.

Wedding Fashion Jewelery

Jewelry is a part of the bridal ensemble that should be chosen very thoroughly. The day after the wedding you put your gown and veil into a box, but jewelry is to be enjoyed over the years. Many would-be brides are at a great loss when choosing jewelry pieces for their big day. Finding something beautiful, matching and becoming is never easy…

White Gold Necklace

Every Gold is beautiful to someone, someplace. The most important thing is that the White Gold necklace or Gold solitaire pendant you select to be your own, whether a Gold heart, diamond journey, Gold cross or classic 3-stone Gold design, should be the one that is the most beautiful to you or the one who will receive it from you.

Diamond Bangles

You can't really say that Diamond bangle are back since they never completely went away, but this season they're a full-fledged fashion trend. The way to wear them is in stacks, so get used to hearing that jingle-jangle or clickety-clack they make as a cluster shimmies up and down the arm.

Bridal Fashion Jewelry

Therefore bridal Fashion jewelry, chosen tastefully and worn properly, will surely add complement to her wedding dress and make her look as beautiful as any bride should be. Bridal Jewelry refers to ornaments worn by persons, typically made with gems and precious metals.

Diamond Bracelets

Diamond bracelets are popular accessories for Very Special occasions due to their luster and sparkle. Kashmir ki Kali Collection saree - Pria Katrina Puri draping Gauhar Khan

Gauhar Khan displays a creation from ‘Kashmir Kali Collection’ by designer Pria Kataria Puri.

Didn’t she show this collection last year?

Anyway, I like the heavy embroidery and the flow of the fabric. With such a heavy embroidery on the pallu, it probably makes sense to leave the blouse textured but otherwise subdued.

Nida Mahmood saree displayed by Neetika Singh

Before you say anything negative about Nida Mahmood, let me just tell you that I LOVE her work. Most people might find her creations a bit odd, but that is precisely the reason I enjoy seeing what she does.

I know that she will give us something that is just mind blowing.

If you don’t go overboard once in a while - you are not taking enough risks.

This was shown a few days ago during the fashion prview.

Hats for Occasions

As the years have passed hats have slowly lost favour, even for weddings and worship with only a proportion of the congregations donning them. They have never been worn universally since the 1920s. They were popular again in the 1980s for weddings and special occasions after the Princess of Wales, Diana used them to add a sense of sophistication to her persona in the early days of her marriage. Once she found her confidence she abandoned hats for most occasions.

Hats when worn today are either worn for a special dressy occasion such as a wedding or conversely as casual statement attire in the way that caps might be worn the wrong way around. Functional hats are still used by uniformed workers for corporate identity or protection as well as by many individuals in inclement weather. Individuals wear fur hats or simple fleece beanie hats in very cold weather and use sunhats in very sunny weather. Those who cannot bear a hat unwittingly adopt a hat form built into a garment, as in a hoodie casual zip top.

It is unlikely that the hat will ever die as an accessory as it offers far too much potential for drawing attention to the face. Fashion designers are aware of this and every so often exploit this fact in the hope that fashion followers will adopt the hat. In the world of logos, branding and status symbols the hat is an easy and usually less costly item to purchase from a design house and can make them a great deal of money if a particular item catches the imagination of the public. Often it advertises the company name.

Unfortunately the fact that a hat being relatively small is more easily affordable by the masses, means that every so often an item like the Burberry cap found itself eventually banned from certain social venues as it became associated with poor street and pub and club behaviour. Recently Burberry withdrew this hat in order to disassociate itself from those who wore it as a uniform that gave the message bad boys!

THE LONG NIGHT OF FASHION:
AWARDS FOR 6 YOUNG DESIGNERS

THE MOST CREATIVE COLLECTION - MARISOL VITE AVILA

THE MOST COMMERCIAL COLLECTION - SARA GALARDI

THE MOST MEDIA-ORIENTED COLLECTION - MARK FLAIM

THE DEAN AWARD - ELENA SAVASTA

THE CARAN D’ACHE AWARD - SARA DI PAOLO

Florence, 29 May 2008 - The long-awaited “La Lunga Notte della Moda” end-of-year fashion show by Polimoda students was held last night at the Saschall Theatre in Florence. Over 400 creations by students graduating in Fashion Design and Pattern Making for Women's Clothing came down the runway as the final act of their study course.

The show opened with outfits by students on the pattern-making course, sharing the theme "The contemporary aspect of paper patterns". These were followed by the 38 collections by students in their third and final year of Fashion Design, with 8 outfits each, the final result of these young designers’ educational and personal evolution. This was the first catwalk debut for the designers of tomorrow, a fascinating preview of the future of fashion.

The absolute new entry this year was the presence of three big-name juries, made up of established professionals and authorities from the world of fashion, who during the evening judged the group of designers and awarded prizes to the best collections. The categories were: The most Creative, The most Commercial and The most Media-oriented. Judges included famous names from the sector: Eva Cavalli for Roberto Cavalli, Patrizia Bambi for Patrizia Pepe, Ermanno Scervino, Raffaello Napoleone for Pitti Immagine, Luisa Panconesi for Luisa Via Roma, Sabrina Damassa for Between, Riccardo Grassi for Studio Zeta, Kim So Hyoune for La Rinascente, Eva Desiderio for Quotidiano Nazionale, Giulia Crivelli for Il Sole24Ore, Roberta Rusconi for D La Repubblica delle Donne and Licia Bonesi for Class.

Special awards were also given to The Most Promising Collection by Dean Linda Loppa and by event sponsors Caran D’Ache. The audience joined forces with the jury of experts in choosing the winner of the Audience Prize.

Announcement of the winners was a very emotional event held today at Villa Strozzi during the End of Year Ceremony. The prize for The most Creative Collection went to Marisol Vite Avila, who presented "Mexico, the Enchanted Garden": an original, very refined collection characterised by the colour green and inspired by nature and plant shapes. The most Commercial Collection was won by Sara Galardi, “S-Féerique”, in black and white inspired by the image of Pierrot and the moon. Mark Flaim won The most Media-oriented Collection thanks to a group of male outfits in white playing on contrasts, entitled “A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing”.

The Caran D’Ache Award jury chose the romantic shapes and bright colours of the “Evanescent Ophelia” collection by Sara Di Paolo: recalling the pre-Raphaelite feminine ideal with echoes of the late sixties and early seventies. The majority of votes by over 1400 spectators went to Alice Minacci and her collection "Russkii Moroz" - a journey through distant Russia thanks to folkloristic garments reworked in a modern key, with masculine cuts restyled in soft shapes and bright colours, and she was thus the winner of the Audience Award.

As a final surprise for the young designers, Dean Linda Loppa decided to reward The most Promising Collection, and chose Elena Savasta who presented “New Born”, a collection of sophisticated experimentation. Thanks to her creative potential and cultural baggage, Elena will now be doing the Polimoda Master in Advanced Fashion Design.

All the winning collections will be on show at Pitti Uomo from 18 to 21 June and at “La moda in Mostra” display at the future venue of Villa Favard in Florence of the 18 collections by the young designers on the Advanced Fashion Design Master and of the footwear creations from the fashion Footwear Design Master.

Runway (fashion)

Runway describes a narrow, usually elevated platform that runs into an auditorium, used by models to demonstrate clothing and accessories during a fashion show.

It is sometimes called ramp, as in "walk the ramp".

Catwalk floor is a narrow, usually elevated platform used by models to demonstrate clothing and accessories during a fashion show. The term probably derived from catwalks [3] that connect adjacent buildings. The term may also be derived from a more literal meaning, as models on the catwalk often use a walk which is like that of a cat, placing one foot directly in front of the other to produce an alluring swagger in which the hips take on a more exaggerated movement. In fashion jargon, "what's on the catwalk" or similar phrasing can refer to whatever is new and popular in fashion.

A catwalk is also known as a runway, especially when it is not elevated. This form has been used in such instances as the title of the television series Project Runway.

CELEBRITY FASHION

Shahrukh Khan, the brand ambassador of the luxury watch brand, TAG Heur will be advertising for the latest model of the brand, Monaco 69 in his much anticipated forthcoming film, Don. The brand has unveiled a limited edition of Monaco 69 Shah Rukh Khan watch. In October, when the film releases, only 100 pieces of the watch will be launched. And not surprisingly, all the watches will bear superstar SRK’s signature.

Personal Quotes of Shahrukh Khan

(December 2001, about Hrithik Roshan): I wish I looked as good as he does. And I wish I danced as well as he does!

“Yes, I do have a close circle of friends and I am very fortunate to have them as friends. I feel very close to them I think friends are everything in life after your family. You come across lots of people all the time but you only make very few friends and you have to be true to them otherwise what’s the point in life?”

“I’d rather sink trying to be different, than stay afloat like everyone else”

“I cannot repay my fans for what they have done for me, they have given me so much love and that love has taken me to the number 1 position where I am today, the only thing I can do for my fans is to never stop working, and to do films till the very end, it is the only way I can express my love for them.”

“To me, Devdas is the end of love stories. I’ve portrayed an obsessed lover, a nice lover, an angry lover, a romantic lover. And now I’ve played Devdas. For someone who doesn’t even like love stories, I’ve played an awful lot of lovers. Personally speaking, I wouldn’t see any of the romantic films I’ve acted in.”

“I’m the luckiest man in the world and I don’t want to hide from the faces I’m acting for. So I don’t surround myself with guards, I’ve never given an interview in which I’ve said I feel bad that I can’t go shopping or I can’t go to Chowpatty and eat bhelpuri without being mobbed. I’m not the kind of guy who goes out wearing dark glasses (I don’t think I’m a big enough star to hide behind them, honest). I go to see movies in the cinema theatres, I go to restaurants with my family and friends even though I know people are going to disturb me there.”

“God has become a generic term like `mind blowing.’ It is embarrassing. I would have said that to Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah, Nana Patekar. I used to tell them I want to stand in the same space as you. I’ve told Kamal Haasan, I just want to touch you. They are the gods of acting. When people call me God, I say, no, I’m still an angel or saint of acting. I still have a long way to go.”

(August 2004): Awards that ignore me are losers.

(August 2004): I’m try-sexual. I try anything that’s sexual.

(August 2004): I have no competition. Every year the names I’m pitted against keep changing. You can’t cream the competition, you have to kill it.
